Engine Oil 5W-30 VW 507 00

Themenstarteram 28. März 2021 um 20:29

Hi all, I own a '2018 VW Tiguan Allspace 2.0 BiTDi 240HP DSG7 R-Line 7seater since Sep 2019, when I bought it slightly used (1 year old and 10.000 Km's) and it has the extended VW warranty option (5 years) until 06/2023.

It is set to Flexible Service, when the BC tells me to book for service, but for the longlivity of the engine I chose to change the engine oil every year (around 15.000 Km's).

The oil used so far (had 39.000 Km's) is Castrol Edge Professional 5W-30 III VW 507 00 and between oil changes there is no oil consumption, till today, so I am quite satisfied with this engine oil.

The questions I have, are the following:

1) Can I use another oil brand besides Castrol, which also meets the factory requirements VW 507 00, during the oil changes in the official VW dealer? Or I must use Castrol till the end of the warranty period?

2) I looked at the specs of the already used Castrol Edge Professional 5W-30 VW 507 00 and I compared it with the specs of another 5W-30 VW 507 00 engine oil which I am thinking to use as a better option, Liqui Moly Top Tec 4200 5W-30. Is there anyone using this specific engine oil (Liqui Moly Top Tec 4200 5W-30) to share his review of it's use? Do you think it is a better option to use it in my cars engine, in comparison to the Castrol Edge Professional 5W-30?

Here are the Specs of both mentioned above engine oils:

Castrol Edge Professional III 5W-30 VW 507 00

Liqui Moly Top Tech 4200 5W-30

Pour Point: -42 °C

Flash Point: 232 °C

Density 855 kg/m³ (0.855 g/cm³) at 15°C

Viscosity: Kinematic: 70 mm2/s (70 cSt) at 40°C // 12,2 mm2/s (12,2 cSt) at 100°C

TBN: 8,5 mg KOH/gr

Thank you in advance for your answers.

Marios

Hi topmar,

Unfortunately that's an often, controversial and sometimes even very emotional discussed topic - like enigne oil in general ;). We had just that in the Tiguan 2-Forum lately, however, 304 contributions filling 21 pages . May you can use a translator in order to gain inside:

Hi mate, thanks for the reply, I will check it right away.

Two an a half years later, but maybe it helps others with the same question:

you can use EVERY oil that meets the factory requirements VW 507 00. Important here is that it has the vw approval witch will be stated on the label of the container.

Take care of that there are no phrases like "is similar to" or something like that.

There must be "meets" or "exceeds" the VW specification.

Thanks for your answer, after trying Castrol Edge 5W-30 LL, Liqui Moly Top Tec 4200 5w-30 and Ravenol VMP 5W-30, I changed back to Castrol Edge 5W-30 LL and plan to stick to this oil.

All are good and most of them has been blanded at the same factory

Thanks, I was convinced to try Shell Helix Ultra Professional AV-L 5W-30 LL this time, as the most new oil type.
