Noise from 2. 0 TDI in the morning help
Typ: Passat B8 2015 KM155673 2.0 TDI

A year ago at vw dealer I replaced timing belt and tensioner and water pump.
and now a short time ago I hear a sound randomly and I cannot trace so well where it is today.
When I turn on the engine, you don't hear it immediately after 50 seconds or 1 minute, then the rattling noise comes and after 10 seconds it is gone again, mainly with a cold start and very sometimes end of the day.
So I went back to the dealer to see if it still does not come from the timing belt so immediately made an appointment and the car was taken away the car was lost for 2 days, they have checked everything, VW says the timing belt and the rest are good and everything around it is also checked, and on the outside where the Multi belt is also checked everything there was also no spelling in the pulleys according to VW but they have replaced the multi belt because they suspected it from there and that it has never been replaced before. I thought ok.
Next day exactly the same sound again, I had called the dealer again and had an employee say that the noise is not bad and that it was now a bit difficult to trace, but he assured me that it
did not come from the timing belt that it was outside . So I had to look until the sound gets worse and the sound lasts longer.
I also hear the sound regardless of whether I turn the airo on or off.

Can it be the EGR Valve?
Or the water pump?
sounds like a thin piece of metal vibrating. is it more on the gearbox side below battery? between engine and gearbox is such a piece which can sometimes vibrate.
what does the mechanic say if you show him your video? should be easier for him to have a look
Hi BLiZZ87,
No the sound is from the side where the timing belt is from that area come that sound.
Have taking back to the dealer but they thought it was the multi belt.
Because the sound is sometimes too short to detect the issue where it comes from.
But those days when it’s cold outside and the engine start from 1000 rpm I don’t heart that noise,
Only I notice this when the engine starts below 1000rpm and when it is around 12/13 degrees I hear that sound. I thought maybe the water pump? But the water pump I changed last October.
This time I want to bring my car to other garage not a dear to see if they can hear and see where the sound coming from.
Can i do something to check the water pump?
is it an original part or some aftermarket part? i think it can only be tested when you remove it and turn it in your hand.
so last October the timing belt was off for changing the pump. maybe it's some pulley.
hard to say where the noise is coming from without having the car here. that sound is not familiar to me
Its a original part from vw, yes thats way is a bitt difficult, i will go soon to the garage again, where do you live in germany
Herford or around Osnabrück. when the Sound is only at cold engine, it's already very difficult to reproduce
Ok, i will be around wiesbaden in 2 weeks around for a week, yes its a bit difficult to know where the sound comes from.
Bei mir gleich .....

Had a similar sound, seemed to be a pump, VW knows about this phenomenon, their TPI recommends to do nothing
Hi mgierse, what kind of pump?

Did you replace the pump? Was it expensieve? Please let me know
No I didn’t, according to VW this is a „normal“ sound, VW‘ recommendation for their shops: leave it just the way it is
